March 2026

2026 Port of the Future Conference

The 2026 Port of the Future Conference will bring global port and maritime leaders to Houston to discuss the future of seaports, infrastructure, and operational processes across maritime, air, land, and cyber domains.

With representatives from over 60 ports across the world, the conference will focus on today’s most pressing challenges, emerging risks, innovative solutions, and industry best practices.

FMCSA Removes Non-Compliant ELDs

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has removed nine electronic logging devices from its approved list after determining they failed to meet federal requirements (49 CFR Part 395).

Drivers and carriers using these devices must stop using them immediately and switch to paper logs or a compliant ELD to remain in compliance.

Imports to Decline Early 2026

Import cargo at major U.S. container ports is projected to decline year-over-year in the first half of 2026, according to a recent report from the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates. With approximately 60% of intermodal freight tied to imports, continued tariff impacts and slowing volumes could significantly affect supply chains and overall freight activity in the months ahead.

Texas Leads in Truck Congestion

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has released its 15th annual Top 100 Truck Bottleneck List, and Texas once again ranks among the most congested states for freight movement. ATRI’s rankings are based on extensive truck GPS data and are used to help guide infrastructure planning and investment decisions. These congestion points not only impact drivers and supply chain efficiency but can also increase costs for businesses and consumers.

Dow Announces Workforce Reduction

Dow will reduce its workforce by 13%, approximately 4,500 positions, as part of a restructuring plan aimed at boosting profitability by $2 billion. The company also projected weaker first-quarter revenue, citing continued soft demand and a shift toward greater automation and AI to improve efficiency.

CVSA International Roadcheck: May 12–14

Drivers have roughly 90 days to plan and prepare for the annual three-day inspection event across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

From May 12–14, law enforcement will conduct inspections as part of the CVSA’s International Roadcheck initiative — a 72-hour exam focused on vehicle condition, cargo securement, driver documentation, and regulatory compliance.

Now is the time to ensure driver equipment is inspection-ready.
